Richard has been a board director of Opyn since 2022 and joined as CEO in April 2024. In his role as CEO, Richard is responsible for the overall growth of Opyn Health.

Before joining Opyn, Richard served as senior vice president of innovation, strategy and sales for Walmart Health & Wellness where he was responsible for overseeing the strategy management team; continuing to form innovative partnerships, including business development of new Health & Wellness initiatives, and led sales and account management across Health & Wellness for new customers growth and offerings.

Prior to joining Walmart, Richard spent 10 years at Anthem, most recently serving as the head of integrated growth verticals, supporting the commercial and specialty business division. Richard started his career at Anthem as the head of National Labor & Trust and was then promoted to vice president of large group segment strategy. In addition, he has spent more than 25 years in the healthcare industry where he worked in several sales and account management leadership positions driving innovative and profitable growth.

Richard received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science / History from Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio.

Luis currently serves as Opyn’s COO, where he oversees all operational aspects for Opyn Health and provides direction, strategy and innovation around the products and services we deliver.

Luis is a tenured leader with nearly 30 years of experience across several areas of healthcare, with deep expertise in the payor space. Prior to joining Opyn, Luis was at Elevance, where he co-developed the Student Health Market. He served as the leader of the student market for the last two years, where he grew the products and membership to nearly 1 million students covered across the various products and plans.

In his prior roles at Elevance and Anthem, Luis was responsible for the development and implementation of innovative product, solutions and operational processes dedicated to several unique lines of business, including Taft Hartley, Labor & Trust, TPA, Self administered and Self Funded entities.

Luis believes deeply in empowering healthcare consumers, so they are clear on their care options, costs, and quality of care available. Well informed consumers are more likely to make the better choices around their care, which leads to better outcomes.

Brent is an accomplished Chief Technology Officer (CTO), entrepreneur and software architect who thrives in a fast-paced environment where innovation and creativity regarding the solving of business problems is of critical importance. He is a passionate, strategic problem solver who excels at creating flexible, scalable software platforms that integrate with both modern and legacy systems.

Brent has over 20 years of experience in the computer technology industry including software design and development, where he led his product development departments by example, both architecting and building software along with the team, setting a very high bar for code quality, efficiency, and customer user experience.

Brent’s most recent accomplishments were his contributions while serving as the CTO for Homestead Smart Health Plans where he architected and built a modern, multi-layer data access framework and data export system for multiple customer payment, claim, and eligibility integrations. In other roles, he has designed and developed various payment systems, healthcare claim auditing, pricing, and billing systems, and hired and managed high-quality, high-performing technology teams.

Brent earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Science from Cabrini University.

Kevin Wallquist is the Chief Growth Officer at Opyn Health, where he leads and manages nationwide business development and distribution strategies.

A skilled and recognized leader in sales and marketing, Kevin has played a key role in enhancing the operational performance of Fortune 500 companies for over 24 years. With deep expertise in virtual care solutions, insurance products, and fostering national relationships; Kevin has held senior sales and marketing positions across various industries.

Before joining Opyn Health, he served as Director of Health & Wellness Sales, Strategy, and Innovation at Walmart, where he developed strategic partnerships supporting all facets of healthcare delivery; from patient acquisition strategies to pharmacy alignment for specialty drugs. Prior to that, he held an executive leadership role at MeMD, where he was recognized as a subject matter expert in virtual care strategies for health plans, TPAs, distribution partners, and self-funded brokers and employers.

Kevin began his career in the human capital sector, where he held various roles in building employment branding and recruiting solutions. He helped leading organizations define their unique brand identity and develop workforce strategies to attract and retain top talent.

With more than 30 years of experience in financial services, general accounting, and reporting for large organizations, Lou excels in leadership roles and enjoys working with stakeholders and decision makers to solve real-world problems. Lou leverages technology solutions to navigate complex financial reporting requirements and improve efficiency.

Blending technical acumen and training with business savvy and operational leadership, Lou has been continually acknowledged for his team-building talents and influential leadership of large cross-functional initiatives in a matrix environment.

A true problem solver, Lou is eager to take on new challenges and responsibilities such as expanding his sphere of leadership and leading end-to-end projects while mentoring and developing those around him. This key value add has enabled him to bring structure to ambiguity and exceed stakeholder expectations at every opportunity.

Previously, Lou spent 19 years at Evolent Health, including 8 years as VP of Client Financial Services where he developed technology-driven solutions to support client financial management and accounting requirements.

Courtney is vp of strategy for Opyn Health, where she provides support for the leadership team by collaborating to define, implement,track and manage the deployment of our strategy. Additionally, she provides direction and leadership on the Opyn brand and how we show up in the market.

Prior to joining Opyn, Courtney supported strategy for Walmart Health & Wellness by bringing Walmart’s assets to market and defining and implementing partnerships with payers. Courtney has experience with leading every aspect of large-scale projects; from strategy to implementation – including during COVID-19, where she was instrumental in Walmart’s implementation of a company-wide COVID-19 screening process, mask requirements, and testing processes.

Before joining Walmart in 2019, Courtney was a sales executive, responsible for large enterprise sales portfolios in healthcare, research and education. In addition, Courtney was a principle gift officer and strategist in healthcare; helping to create and fund specialty healthcare programs in Minnesota and Washington, D.C. She helped create and fund the second largest fetal surgery program in the U.S.

Courtney graduated with honors with her Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Sales from St. Catherine’s University and with distinction with her MBA from University of Michigan Ross School of Business.

President of AmWins Specialty Casualty Solutions

As a member of our Board of Directors, Munawar Ali is the President of AmWins Specialty Casualty Solutions, LLC. Mr. Ali has deep domain expertise in workers’ compensation and the structuring of sophisticated insurance products for carriers, self-insureds, and the public sector. Prior to AmWins, Mr. Ali, was President of MNA Insurance Services from 2010-2011, from 2007-10, President of Accretive Insurance Company, and from 2003-2007, Executive Vice President of Brown and Brown.

Partner, Phase 2 Partners

Ian McBane covers financial institutions, insurance, and related technology companies at Phase 2 Partners, a San Francisco-based Financial Services Hedge Fund. Prior to Phase 2, Ian was a Portfolio Manager and Senior Analyst at Talkot Capital, investing in both public and private equity. Ian has a B.S. in Finance from the University of Oregon, and an M.S. in Economics from Portland State University.

Founder, President and Managing General Partner, ARTISVentures

Stuart Peterson is a venture capitalist and board member in the technology, techbio, and life sciences industries. Stuart has led the firm’s investments in technology and therapeutics giants at the earliest stages, from YouTube to Stemcentrx. As a board member, he has advised a wide range of companies, including current board roles at Locus BioSciences, IDbyDNA, TAE Life Sciences, Aether BioSystems, Excision BioTherapeutics, VersaNetworks, Cohesity, Crediwatch and more. Stuart has been named to the Forbe’s Midas List: Top Tech Investors, New York Times and CB Insights Top 100 VCs, TechCrunch VC of the Year and more. He received a B.A. from the University of California Los Angeles and an M.B.A from the University of Chicago.

Jon is currently the CTO at Emerja Health, building the company’s digital offerings to monitor at-risk patient populations.

Prior to this role, Jon served as the SVP of Product at Walmart for their Health & Wellness initiatives, deliveringd igital products for their Walmart Health clinics, telehealth, health programs and retail Pharmacy and Vision businesses. Jon has also previously served as the CTO for Amwell, a national telehealth platform serving millions of patients each year across direct toconsumer, commercial payers, health systems and employers. Jon holds a master’s degree in computer science from WPI, as well as a master’s degree in environmental engineering from Tufts University. Jon received his bachelor’s degree in engineering from WPI.

As an advisor, Dr. George will expand efforts to measure how the utilization of Opyn Market by patients, providers, and payors, increases quality of care. He will also play a key role in evaluating patient recovery, with a particular focus on recovery from surgical procedures.

Dr. George serves as the Therapeutic Area Lead for Musculoskeletal and Surgical Sciences for the Duke Clinical Research Institute and Laszlo Ormandy Distinguished Professor and Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Duke University School of Medicine.

Dr. George's most recent research projects have been supported by the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, and Orthopaedic Section of the American Physical Therapy Association. Dr. George and his collaborators have authored over 300+ peer-reviewed publications in leading physical therapy, rehabilitation, medical, orthopaedics, and pain research journals. He currently serves as Deputy Editor for Physical Therapy and Editorial Board Member for the Journal of Pain. Dr. George also recently completed clinical practice guidelines for low back pain for the Orthopaedic Section of the American Physical Therapy Association and is currently developing clinical practice guidelines for adult musculoskeletal pain with the American Psychological Association.

Senator Harkin represented Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1975 to 1985 and was a U.S. Senator from 1985 to 2015. Senator Harkin’s legislative career includes Healthcare Access and Reform, Labor and Employment, Americans with Disabilities Act, Retirement Security, Wellness and Nutrition, and Federal Farm Policy.

Senator Harkin served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions. He currently serves as Chairman of the Advisory Board for the National Committee for Social Security and Medicare. Since his retirement from the U.S. Senate, Senator Harkin has served on various boards, and as Senior Advisor to the Harkin Institute for Public Policy and Citizen Engagement (harkininstitute.org), at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

As founder and chairman emeritus, Eric Hanson is the visionary behind Opyn’s revolutionary open platform for market-driven healthcare services. Previously CEO and chairman of U.S. Strategies, Mr. Hanson has over 28 years of experience guiding companies through the complexities of the U.S. Congress and a variety of government agencies. Under his leadership, Mr. Hanson was instrumental in the founding of the sub-acute care industry working closely with Integrated Health Services. As an investor and venture capitalist, he served on the advisory board of Acacia Venture Partners and was an early investor in Amerigroup, sold to Anthem, and Select Medical Corporation. Eric also commercialized the 340B pharmacy program by partnering with the National Association of Community Health Centers.
